Five apps have been singled out by the official Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games website as the best to help visitors enjoy their trip to Rio de Janeiro. One of them is JiTT Rio, developed by Portuguese start-up iClio.
The Just in Time Tourist (JiTT.Travel) tourism apps are described as “an app known around the globe for its tourist tips in great cities such as New York, Paris, London and, of course, Rio de Janeiro.” The Rio 2016 website adds that one of the app’s major advantages is the fact that it allows users to create their own itineraries based on their location and the time they have available.
Alongside JiTT Travel, four other apps which “guarantee an incredible experience” in Rio are featured by the website. Green Passport, for instance, developed by Rio 2016 jointly with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), suggests eco-friendly routes within the city, as well as tips for a greener trip. These suggestions are regularly updated, allowing the user to enjoy the Cidade Maravilhosa in a sustainable way.
To make sure you don’t miss out on events and discover walking routes, restaurants, accomodation or transport information, the Rio Official Guide, an app from Rio’s City Hall, brings everything you need into one app. Similarly, the Rio de Janeiro Guide takes the best points selected from the Rio for Partiers guidebook, helping first-timers in town, with suggestions on what to see, eat and enjoy in the city. The app includes tools such as a transport map, party guide and a hotel search engine.
Finally, Vizubox is recommended as a good option if you want to avoid tourist-traps, allowing you to check the attendance levels of bars and clubs beforehand. It also features real-time updates on what’s going on in different locations across the city, such as beaches, bars, restaurants and squares.
